3M 5200 & Teak Cleaners

My keel was recently rebedded and 3M 5200 was applied around bolts where they enter bilge.

I was planning on a thorough cleaning of interior teak this Spring using teak Cleaner. I have heard that teak cleaner is bad for polyurethane based adhesives like 3M 4200 and 5200.

Any thoughts on the impact that this cleaner entering the bilge will have when interior teak is rinsed during cleaning process? Is there a better product for cleaning teak that does not harm 5200?

Thanks,

Mike Hoyt

3M 5200 & Teak Cleaners

While it is possible that some of the teak cleaners can harm 4200 or 5200.... if you make an effort to keep full strength cleaners off of the adhesives and rinse the dilluted cleaners well after use...you should not experience a problem. I might suggest that you maybe cover the areas you are worried about with a plastic drop cloth. You might also call 3M and ask them what you can spray over the 4200 or 5200 to protect it from teak cleaners.
