Can you identify this winch? There are no markings I can see. I'm looking to get a maintenance kit, but don't know what to buy. They are 2-speed winches on a 1986 Jeanneau Tonic 23.
(jvpapas, if you are around, this is your old "Ete")
What parts do you need for these? Are you just looking for the pawls & springs? If so you may find that they are the same size as the replacements that are available at West or others. They fit fine in my barients.
And I agree these look like Barients. Do they have a size number on them anywhere? If you remove the circlip and take off the metal disc under it, I wonder if you will find a maker's mark on the underside?
Take off the wincher. That top part outside the SS ring looks rubber/plastic, it if is, its a 2-speed Lewmar 16. If you know its a 2-speed winch, then I pretty much guarantee you it is.
That 'blue thing' is probably a "Wincher". If so, it was an aftermarket add on so that one doesnt need a cleat to 'hold' the wrapped line; just pull the line 'into' the groove on 'the wincher' and most times the line will stay 'fast' in the groove, sometimes.
That could be almost any 2 speed winch from that era. Almost any 2-speed used circlips. The aluminum flat plate (by which I mean the giant flat washer below the circlip and which holds the drum in place) suggests that it is not a Lewmar, or Barient which used chrome plated flat plates. My best guess is that this is a Merriman or Barlow which did use aluminum flat plates. It might be an old Holt, but there was also a very popular winch in Europe Barossa (w/thanks to Julian at West Marine for remembering the name) which looked similar to that. Harken had bought or had a joint sales agreement that company at some point.
Jeff, those winches you refer to were Barbarossa - Italian IIRC.
They made a really cool looking winch handle that was like a mini grinder pedestal that fit into the top of a regular winch. Probably not great for tacking but looked very cool and probably allowed great power transfer from the grinder.
Bleemus, to the best of my knowledge Ronstan never made winches. Not even winch handles AFAIK
