Prop nut size

I've a 15"Dx10"P 2-blade prop on a 1" shaft. I need to get the right ring spanners for it, does anyone know what the nut size is? The AF (across flat) dimension.

Why not just use a Crescent wrench (adjustable wrench)? That's what they used on my boat when they changed the prop in the water.

Yes, adjustable spanners will be my backup plan if I couldn't arrange for ring spanners. Been taught in school to always use ring spanners where possible, less chances of slipping and hurting hands and also less chances of rounding the nut edges.

You have a Hunter 326 don't you? If so, e-mail Hunter, or check the HunterOwners website. Just eyeballing it, the nut on my 1" shaft was about 11/16 or 3/4.

You can also call a propeller repair shop for the nut size, as they will have the nut on a shelf and can measure it.

Whether or not you end up using a ring spanner (I suspect that is what we Yanks call a "box wrench") or something else, like a pipe wrench (which I recommend,) it should be at least 18" long. It will be difficult to properly torque the nuts with anything shorter.

You may want to consider replacing the nuts while you're at it. If there's any wear or, particularly, corrosion, the threads will have lost much of their retaining capability.

Incidentally, an 18" Crescent spanner will be much stronger than the correspondingly-sized open-ended spanner; don't worry about it opening up. FastBottoms is in the business; his recommendation for a pipe wrench (wouldn't know your terminology -- what's the British term for pipe? I believe we have spanner understood) would be well-founded and based on his personal experience.

Ok, got an answer from Hunter. Its 1 3/16" AF. I haven't found a ring spanner yet but have a metric size adjustable. If only I could lay my hands on an imperial size adjustable spanner. hmmm.
