Propshaft-- Converting old grease pump system
I have an old steel ketch with two prop shaft bearings that run wet inside the prop shaft tube and aft of the stuffing box. They are linked to a belt driven grease pump that apparently pumps grease to them continuously whenever the engine is running. I am giving some thought to shortening the prop shaft tube to expose the bearings and replacing them with new sealed bearings and then placing the stuffing box aft of them to within about 2-3 feet of the cutlass bearing.
At this point I am unsure of whether or not these are thrust bearings. Are there sealed thrust bearings available?
Anybody out there that has dealt with this?
Thanks
