Depending on what broke, you can do a few things.. .a photo would help immensely btw. If it is just the sheave for the
jib halyard, you could rivet or screw a tang, padeye or boombail to the mast and use an external halyard. Primitive, but relatively easy to do, and a relatively fast repair. You could even do this without dropping the mast.
Did the part that connects the forestay to the mast also break, or not? If so, you could do something similiar, but would need to have it wrap a good way around the boom so the screws and rivets are in shear, rather than just tension. They will generally be stronger in resisting shearing forces, especially screws, than tension forces...since screws are generally only held in a mast by the few threads that are tapped into the aluminum of the mast.
