Y-valve

New to me boat, new systems, old questions. Dumb question are better asked than not.

I have to replace the Y-valve for my holding tank. The valve I bought can be used in a couple of ways. Now, in one orientation I should connect the head with the holding tank. The other should connect the holding tank with the macerator. That way, I turn the valve, turn on the pump and the holding tank is evacuated. Correct?

Yes. That's the way I would hook it up.

Re: Y-valve

Hard to say without more information. My system has two Y-valves. One at the outlet of the toilet always discharge to the holding tank or directly overboard (when allowed). The other installed at the outlet of the tank allows selection of the deck waste connection for a pumpout or to a diaphragm pump for discherge overboard (when allowed).

You seem to be mixing the two functions and locations and it's not clear how to do that.

My setup is like the one described by JimsCAL--2 Y-valves, and for the same reason.

Re: Y-valve

I have no Y-valve at the toilet. Just a clear hose bringing water in and a white waste hose that goes thru the bulkhead and connects to the y-valve. I'll check again but I am pretty certain that the other end of the hose goes directly to the macerator. It's actually quite alarming, the number of holes that a boat has in it's bottom.

Re: Y-valve

It would not make sense to connect the toilet outlet to the macerator pump. If the toilet outlet is connected to a Y-valve, I would expect it to allow the output to go either directly overboard via a thru-hull or to the holding tank.

Re: Y-valve

Our Y valve....one ...is after the holding tank. Less joints...less clamps....less chance for issues

One direction goes to a mascerator then is to a thru hull for overboard discharge when permitted
Second direction is to the deck pump out

There is a lock on it the CG has checked when they board to sail nsure the overboard discharge is not being done.
