San Diego Boatyard for DIY?

Does anyone have recent exeperience with doing you own work in San Diego boatyards? All of the yards that I've called seriously poo-poo any DIY activity at all. I'm looking to do a little through-hole/transducer/cutlass bearing work before/after paying the yard to do the bottom.

Thanks!
