GFO® fiber dripless packing

I used this stuff last Fall when I replaced the packing gland on my 27 foot Dufour. I bouught it because it was recommended by another customer at Fawcett's in Annapolis who works at a well known yard there. He said that is all they use. It is easy to use (employ a very sharp knife) and not expensive for an item one relies upon for staying afloat. Were I to do the job again and had a little money, I would put in a PSS Shaft Seal which others of my boat type highly recommend. I would only do that if I had to uncouple and move the shaft back as in replacing the gland hose. After about 30 hours of motoring the seal works fine; obviously I have no way of knowing whether it may score the shaft but have not felt excess heat to touch.
