matching steels and galvanic corrosion
Anyone know if I will have a problem with stainless steel abutting regular steel in a damp and salty place?

The less noble metal will seek nobility. I hope that doesn't bring politics into this thread :)

The steel will get eaten up as a general rule, since it is less noble than the stainless steel.

Your "problems" should be minimal.

What type of stainless steel are you discussing, as this could make a difference.

Just be careful if the stainless is under high load. 304 stainless tends to have serious problems with chloride induced corrosion and can fail pretty unexpectedly. You'd be much better off using 316L stainless for both pieces.
