Refurbishing portholes
Hello,
Well the time has come to cleanup and prepare the bronze portholes to go back into the new coachwork. I am having difficulty getting the glass out of the frame. I have removed the six screws that hold the piece in that holds the glass in place, but the bedding compound is not giving up very easily.
We did an initial cleaning with vinegar and salt, but would like to rebed all of the glass.
Any ideas, hints or suggestions for a non destructive means of removing the glass would be appreciated.
I can find no markings on the bronze castings, however they are elliptical in shape and approximately 14 in wide x 8 in high.
Also a source for the square rubber seals would be helpful.
