Canvas

I am re-covering the deck of a 1966 20'' wooden scow. I am pretty sure that I am going to go back with canvas. Can anyone tell me where I can get a piece of canvas, say 23''x7'', to cover with or am I going to have to use more than one piece.
Also, does anyone know where I can find the proper procedures for laying canvas. I suppose that I can figure it out myself but I would feel more comfortable if someone someone would tell me the important things to be sure of before getting started. Any tips may be helpful.

Ask this at woodenboat.com and you''ll get 200 answers. Someone will likely have different versions depending upon the weave of the canvas you use.

There is actually a ''proper'' canvas for canvasing a deck. There used to be a company who advertised in WoodenBoat Magazine that sold both white lead and canvas for canvassing as deck. I beleive that Chappelle''s ''Boat Building'' has a good section on how to canvas a deck but with my copy in storage I can''t say for sure.

When I wanted to do the deck on my Folkboat, I could only find 54" wide rolls of canvas and so needed to seam the canvas on the centerline. Length was no problem.
