Head Service Kit (Jabsco)

I have a 1995 Hunter 336 with a Compact Jabso Head. The head has functioned well the past 3 years but I am now experiencing a small leak in the pump unit while pumping in raw water.

Jabsco offers a Service Kit that provides all new valves and gaskets for $65. A new head is only $149 (both West Marine Prices).


Has anyone had luck in using this type of service kit or is the extra $85 well worth the expense on a job like this. Any input is greatly appreciated.

To rebuild the pump or replace is really your call. It's a crappy job. But a better job, to replace. If it were me, I replace. If you really want to step up to a much better head, it's also on sale, look here

Most of the people I know have just replaced the head. The reason for it was that the replacement of the head was simpler and faster for them. I'd probably do the re-build, but that's just me. Not too familiar with the Jabsco, personally though, so couldn't say for sure.

Next time I have to do something major with the head on my boat, I'm putting in a Lavac instead. They're close to bulletproof for a marine head.

My Jabsco also took a dump...I opt. new for $119.00 at WM.

If the leak is just coming from the seals then rebuild it and you'll have a new "cruising skill"! If the housing itself is cracked then you need a new head. It is indeed easier to replace the head than to rebuild the pump...but either way it is a crappy job! (g)

I used the service kit for my Jabsco head - worked like a charm. Actually I only needed one gasket, the one that is in the top of the pump (and controls the flow) and the piston and piston arm. Everything else was in a good shape, just had to be cleaned. Some bleach and mr.Clean and some rubbing and the toilet looks like new (really, it does). I recall paying something like $40 for the rebuild kit, though. In fact, you might be able to just get the one gasket if yours is in the same shape as mine.

There is a parts guide for Jabsco toilets that lists every single one, you can use it to find what you need (I got mine with the kit, though )
