More Knot ??'s

2 Knot questions

1 - I have a large main with 2 reef points. When I purchased the boat the reefing lines were attached to the boom with an Anchorman's aka Fisherman's knot ( Marlinespike - Hitches - Anchorbend - Nautical Know How). While this knot has held well it is a pain to untie at the end of the season. Should I consider another know type (bowline for example)???

2 - I have seen some beautiful knots used on the wheel to mark center center. Does anyone have any recommendations and info on how hard this is to tie (I am knot challenged) - Pictures would be great.

Thanks!

Matt

1) Use a bowline. They untie nicely, even after a long time tied.

2) The knot used to mark the king spoke is usually a Turk's head knot. You can see a photo of one here.

BTW, the king spoke is the spoke that sits straight up and down when the rudder is straight.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Turks Head

Thanks Dog,

That is the exact knot I was looking for. Now I just have to figure out how to tie it around the "king spoke" (thanks for that tid bit too!).
