Forestay Clips

I need to add forestay clips to the jib on my 16 ft. day sailer. A previous owner removed a roller furling rig and left it free span. Needless to say, it sags a lot. The question is "where can I find them?". I've tried Google and various sail loft sites with no luck.

Not sure what you have but

If you can get by with nylon hanks

> H-16/SOLCAT JIB SAIL HANK

if not, this is the only other one I know of

Piston Hank Knock On — Snap Shackles — Pro-Boat Marine Equipment

either way you would need to reenforce your sail at each hank

Hello,

What are you asking exactly? I raced Sweet 16's for many years and could probably help you out. The boat isn't intended to use a roller- furling headsail. There should be a light wire forstay to hold your mast up, but the actual forstay is integrated into the luff of the jib. Once tentioned the light wire forstay will go limp... does that make sense?

I understand what you are saying. I'm new to S16s and bought hull number 111 (the 11th boat built - lots of time for alterations to have been made). It is the only one I've ever seen and there don't seem to be any others near here (west central Arkansas). Guess I need to make a pilgrimage to the Kansas City area and find out what a properly rigged one looks like. There is a hook on the mast that must be for a wire halyard but it doesn't have one. There is a wire in the luff of the jib. The person I bought it from said that he had removed a roller furling setup. I expected the jib to have clips along the luff to clip to the forestay. The sag must be from the rope halyard stretching under load.

The jib tack should attach to the bow tang right behind your forstay. Your jib halyard should have a length of wire probably about a foot long with 4 or 5 furrells/beads on it. You attach the wire end of the halyard to the jib and hoist... the beads will go through the halyard block and should clip into the hook on the mast? Does this make sense? If you don't have the wire part on your jib halyard one should be able to be made easy enough. The Jib does not hank to the "forstay" the true forstay is the wire in the luff. You should raise the jib before the main. By having someone pull the "forstay" and mast toward eachother you can get the jib halyard clipped into one of the higher beads... this will put more tention in your rig. By adjusting your sidestay chainplates and mast step position prior to raising your jib, you control rake. Hope this helps a little.

I found this on the S16 site... it shows the jib halyard I was talking about above.

Thanks a lot. I found those drawings but they down loaded so small that they were unreadable when zoomed. They help a lot. I don't have the wire halyard section on my jib so I'll be getting one made and I'll be downloading these legible sketches.
