Arrow What Kind ?

The former PO of my boat used a clauk that stayed soft around the coupler and the shaft going into the rudder. Any idea what it is, or what I should use to replace it with ?

That looks like plumbers putty... which I don't really recommend you use...As for what to use, it really matters on what your rudder shaft and rudder are made of.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I'm a plumbers son, I assure you it isn't plumbers putty. The shaft appears to be stainless.
