Globalstar or Iridium -rental choice for Bermuda

Going to Bermuda next month from Norfolk and want to rent a sat phone. I have read the threads here a couple of months ago about Globalstar's problems. Would Iridium be the best choice for voice calls in that zone? I haven't been able to determine where Globalstar still works...We are really just looking for a reliable way to make a few voice calls - not data.

Any advice appreciated! Also any recommendations on who to rent from.

Pam...Cool...what kind of boat are you going on?? I would rent an Iridium since it IS reliable and the short term expense is not a killer. Try these guysfor a rental...I was very satisfied with them for my G-Star sale and monthly service a couple of years back and they are not a fly-by-nite outfit.

That looks great...I will give them a call. I didn't know if maybe Bermuda was close enough to US that Globalstar would be fairly reliable and have heard before that the voice quality is better than Iridium. But I also know they are having some major satellite problems - so I suppose we'll go with Iridium.

re Bermuda...we're going on our Shannon 43.... Have never been there and we are really looking forward to the trip!
