Lifelines !!

My lifelines in a word are shot. I am sure many of you have replaced yours. What is the best source, price service out there ?

Are the stanchions shot too, or are you just replacing the wire? If you are just replacing the wire, I would highly recommend going with bare 1x19 wire, rather than the vinyl coated stuff as it will generally last longer. The vinyl coating tends to promote corrosion and hides the corrosion from visual inspection.

Just the wire, I rebed the stantions today, what a pain, took the entire day.

Most rigging shops can get the wire for you, so shop around and get some price quotes.. Most can add the swaged fittings you need, but I would probably get swageless fittings and do it myself, since it will pay for itself in the long run IMHO.

I agree. Just go with the bare wire and the swageless. That way you can measure it on the boat yourself.

Layline had the cheapest 1x19 I could find. I shopped this all out awhile back but havent started on it yet defender had the best price on fittings.

Just be sure you have a whipping on each side of the cut line before you cut.
And after you have your new lifelines in place. Put snaking on them. (snaking is the netting that goes from the deck to the height you want it)

This Snaking will keep kids (of all ages & sizes) from slipping between the life lines and over the side.

I know this because while in the Navy in heavy seas. Snaking has saved me twice.

Another good thing about the snaking is that it will help keep sails and such on-board.
