Winch parts are they generic?

Hi all,

Ok so I found out what winches I have they are Lewmar speed 10 they are non self tailing single direction winches. I need to get springs for them. Arco Hutton doesn't seem to carry lewmar parts just barlow and barient. I looked at west marine and they have a spare part kit for lewmar. But it is not specific as to the model number of the winch; just says lewmar winch spare parts. The link is below. Is this what I need to buy? Or if this is wrong where else can I get the springs? Lewmar's website says contact them about it, has anyone done this about their winches? Thanks!
PS> the vessel is a 79 catalina 27 I think the winches are original.

I am not sure what half of those parts are but you may not need any parts. Generaly unless you drop something over board you can strip them down, clean and lubricate and reassemble without spares. You are most likely to need pawls and their springs. I have 6 I need to do and I plan on doing just that and if I need parts I will order just what I need and redo them when they arrive.

I believe that the pawls and springs are the same under a certain size like about 44 then they go to a large pawl.

Gary

Thanks Cam cool site, I have been playing on Lewmar's site for awhile and did not find that one.

The Lewmar kits are made for all winches less than 10 years old. They have one for the two-speed and self-tailing winches, one for the single speed winches and one for the three-speed winches. IIRC, the pawls are the same size on all of their two-speed winches, another size for their single speed winches, and a third for the three-speed winches—hence the three kits.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
