Hey folks,

My husband and I are getting ready to buy our first boat. She's a 30' scampi well loved and in great condition, even has recent bottom paint. However, the center table in the saloon is missing. Is there a place to buy one "off the shelf" or are we going to have to build one to fit?

Cheers,

SW

Most tables are custom to each boat model, so you'll probably have to make one.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Thanks SD,

Thats what I figured, but he asked me to look around online just in case. So far I've found some teak cockpit tables ranging from $300-$750... I think taking some measurements and building it ourselves will be just a little bit softer on the kiddy...

How did you finish up with your table?
I started with an installed one, but it took too much room.
I'm using a portable "TV tray for now, and am designing a fold away to attach to the mast pillar.
Your experience would be helpful.

You can make the table according to your needs and play with the design as much as you want... Options are limited by your space and imagination folding edge or chart storageetc...
If you need pedestals, ebay... 18 bucks for the set...
Good luck and congrats...
(Make them out of pine or particule board... Just apply a good stain and lots of protective coat... No need to spend so much money on teak in cabin...)

The best price I have found for teak, true teak, is South Jersey Lumbermans supply South Jersey Lumberman's, Inc.. I searched the net from asia to Washington to Fla. I'm in upstate NY. They milled some quartersawn teak for decking. Nice. FYI I have no $ interest in the company...
You might consider cherry or ash since it is out of the weather - Good Luck

wow... Haven't been on here for a while. We got the boat we've been cruising the Chesapeake with her, so we've been busy.

What my husband ended up doing for a saloon table...

He had this beautiful antique Pennsylvania dutch tool box, with the purplish red finish that he decided to use. He then build staking trays from bottom to top to hold ready access tools and widgets. The trays are fitted so that even if the thing flips all the way over all the bits stay in their own cubbies. We keep it in the center of the boat, or leash it to which ever side has the lowest water tank for balance under sail.

It works beautifully and is one of the most complemented aspects of the boat.
We have other teak projects we want to do, so I've booked marked the site reccomended...
