Wind Scoop

Has anyone ever used one of these wind scoops ? If so, do they really work ? The web site can be found here.

Thanks,
Paul

I have used something similar that my friend made for her boat. They will probably work fairly well. I would go with the regular one-direction windscoop if you're planning on using it at anchor or on a mooring, since you'll probably get better air flow with it.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

It sure doesn't hurt. Take it from someone who boats in the most miserable humidity in the midwest - any bit of air movement you can direct into that hatch helps. If there's no breeze to be had, it obviously does not help.

It will work, but as Dawg says, if you're at anchor or a mooring the boat will face into the wind anyway. If at a dock, you can reposition a regular wind scoop to face into the wind as well. In one respect I can see this "new" design as being less effective because you'll only have 1/4 of the scoop directing air into the boat at any given time. YMMV of course.

Where do you find the uni-directional wind scoops? My googling has fallen short this time.

Thanks

Freesail - I was responding to mwrohde's post looking for a uni-directional wind scoop (vs. the multi-directional wind scoop at your site).

Actually, the ad in Defender says that the Windscoop "will follow variable winds" -- i.e., it, too, is multi-directional. Yet its efficiency isn't compromised by dividing the wind-catching area. Sounds like a Better Mousetrap.
