Compass Oil Leak

So, I noticed the compass oil going down in the compass, so I pulled the compass from the pod over the companionway, and sure enough, the plug to hold in the oil located at the back of the compass is gone. Its a suunto compass, I think a B-116 (they look the same). I have yet to find the plug, but it has to be there.

Do I need a new compass? Can I just add more oil? What type of oil is in the compass? If I cannot get a replacement plug, could I just make one with some cork and caulk, its about a 1/8 in. hole?

I would appreciate any comments.

There were a couple of recent threads on this subject. Here's one of them.

fluid in compass

Those grand fresh-water seas of ours - Erie, and Ontario, and Huron, and Superior, and Michigan, - possess an ocean-like expansiveness...They contain round archipelagoes of romantic isles...they have heard the fleet thunderings of naval victories...they know what shipwrecks are, for out of sight of land, however inland, they have drowned full many a midnight ship with all its shrieking crew. --from Moby Dick
