Crap (no pun intended)...not for the faint of heart

I've read many posts on head issues here...but none seem to cover my two questions. The first is technical, the second is a bit, well, rude...don't know any other way to state it.

1. My "tinker toy" head doesn't allow water to be pumped into the bowl. Here's the deal. My head has a two position toggle. One side, I presume is for pumping cleaning water in, the other is for emptying the bowl either into the holding tank or overboared (if in a legal are to do so). The toggle to pump waste out works ok...it almost empties the bowl. The probelm is with the "let water in" position. Nothing comes in. What's up with that? Also, when not in use, should the toggel be left in the pump-out position? That's what I assumed.

2. Ok, so here's the gross part. When I look at that "tinker toy" toilet and at the half-dollar sized evacuation hole, I have to wonder...what the heck is going to happen when I let loose an anaconda? I mean you've gotta be kidding me, I've clogged some of the heartiest toilets in the world...how's this tiny half-pint toilet going to handle the likes of me (or my brother for that matter)? Anyways, just wondering if anyone else has had the same questions/issues...and how one handles a severe blow.

CliffL-

It would help if you mentioned what make/model of head you have.

Did you open the seacock that feeds the head pump? If not, then it doesn't really matter what position the little lever is in... you won't get any water in.

Generally, if the lever is in the up position on the piston pump, it is in the flush position, and will pump water from the ocean into the bowl, provided the seacock is open. If the lever is in the down position, it will "dry" the bowl, by evacuating the bowl, but not adding any more water.

If you're really worried about the size of the crap... pull this head out of the boat and install a Lavac vacuum head.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

That small of an "orfice" sounds like a vacu-head in the first place. After all, we are sailors and produce "gorrila turds" to say the least...so why the small orfice..??

Cliff....As an AFOC...I feel qualified on this subject:
1. Either your inlet water through hull is closed or you need a head rebuild kit to get the suction back.

2. While I second the Lavac recommendation....if you have anything else you are stuck with a 1.5" outlet for possibly more crap than you can deal with. Some recommendations once you have the head working properly to reduce down-time and unpleasant tasks!
a. Pump a bunch of water into the head BEFORE you take a seat.
b. Don't hesitate to flush and refill before you've completed you "full" activities.
c. Use TP only after completing initial fulshing activities...i.e. one thing at a time down the pipes!
d. When all else fails...a plunger breaks "things" up sufficiently so that they can make it out of the bowl to the "smasher".

Hope that is a delicate enough reply to a real AFOC problem!! (G)
