Oh, John, that explains everything. You've simply been victimized by British Engineering. (They should have stopped at time machines and victorian steam engines, they did those very nicely.< G >)

Rig a large mirror in the cabin, so that it bathes the engine compartment in full sunlight whenever you are exposed to it. And wear cloves of garlic. Working with silver tools, or at least silver plated tools, also can help. < VBG >

The great thing about hearing these foibles is how it brings me back to when I did the same things. Did I ever tell you about one day when I was in a big rush to set a spinnaker and mixed up the halyard and the sheet and set the sail sideways? You just can't hide that kind of thing in the middle of a fleet rounding the first mark.
