topside ?

Purchased my 1st sailboat, a catalina 22 last week and can't wait to get it in the water.
My questions are....Can I clean the complete deck including non-skid with MEK?
After cleaning, do I compound both surfaces? What about wax? Is there something different for each surface?

Thanks for your help

I noticed a lot of you are in the mass.-RI. area and hope to meet some of you in the water. I'll be sailing out of the Winthrop yatch club and probably out of Newport RI.

Why would you clean the deck with MEK?

Use some marine formulated Boat Soap... rather than MEK... As for wax, use Woody Wax for the non-skid surfaces, and use what ever polish/wax you like for the topsides and cabin top.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Just a friendly reminder that topside and deck are two different things. Here is a post about wax. http://www.sailnet.com/forums/117075-post.html
Like SD said about Woody wax and I use Meguiars Tan bottles for the rest on the deck. You can do a "wax" search and find the rest of that post above.

BTW, since BF has mentioned it... the Topsides are the section of the hull that are above the waterline. The cabin top and deck are the sections of the part that is joined to the hull.
