universal diesel impeller shaft

I have a Universal m25xp and the impeller froze, causing the slotted end on the shaft that drives it to break. This is sticking out of the engine and possibly could be the end of the crankshaft, although hard to believe someone would design it like that to break instead of the impeller shaft end, but I can find no diagram showing me what it is attached to. Anyone run into this problem or know anything?

It looks like that shaft has splines and can be pulled out...
