Cleaning sails

What''s the best way to clean sails? I have some that haven''t been used in quite some time and are dirty/stained. Some have some rust stains as well. Can they get clean?

We had ours cleaned and reconditioned by SailCare, Inc., (800) 433-7245. Came back looking and setting like when they were new.

I have used SailCare two times for both cleaning and modifications/repair. Great customer service, prices and results. You can''t go wrong.

I''m not sure about the rust stains; probably best to call and talk direct to SailCare. They do restore whatever makes the sails stiff and I imagine that would lock in any rust stains (or other stains they couldn''t remove) so you''d definitely want to ask about that. This true especially if your sails are terribly stained with rust or whatever.

Our loft suggested that with light dirt, pretreat with Woolite, then pop them into your jacuzzi (or a neighbors) and "lawn" dry. He made this suggestion with dacron in mind.

Any suggestions for getting rid of green mildew (mold) stains.
