depth sounder transducer - how to check?

I have older SR Mariner instruments. The depth sounder seems to be flaky. How does one check the state of the transducer, particularly the electrical characteristics. It is said to work at 160 KHz. What resistance, etc, should it present at the terminals on the display, when disconnected?

Thanks,

- charles
