Fuse blows while installing radio/cdplayer/mp3

I have been trying to install , admittedly , an auto version of the above audio system on my boat .All had been going well untill i tried to connect the 12v supply to the appliance .The 10 amp factory fuse blows . I have tried increasing ampage of fuses , but stopped at 30 amp , as i feared damage to the radio , what am i doing wrong . I have followed the factory circuit diagram. I am lost for what to do next .

if the fuses are blowing (10 amp) and a 30 amp is also 'blowing'. the radio appers to be shorted out internally.

I assume you are talking about a "car stereo".Have you connected the speakers or are you attempting to hook it up first? You MUST connect speakers before powering up or you will short out the unit...permanently.
Alternatively...you should check your grounding wire and insure you have a solid connection to ground. If neither of these solve the problem I'd say you have a defective product.

I was indeed trying to power up first , without connecting the speakers . I was referring to a car stereo .Just out of interest , why would the absence of the speakers short circuit the unit ?. Do you need a grounding wire on a boat ? - dont you just need a positive ( red) wire and black ( negative ) wire ?
