Canvas for Sail Cover

Has anyone ordered canvas for sail covers or for bimini or dodger tops? I wanted to order some canvas to make a new sail cover. This is not just run of the mill canvas right? Its special "marine" canvas? Has anyone ever ordered it or know where to get it? Thanks!

Saurav-

Use Sunbrella acrylic canvas. Most big fabric stores can get the material for you.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

SD,

I have noticed that most sail boats have like 4 colors of canvas : navy, royal blue, brown, grey. Are those standard for that brand or are there more colors?

Sailormann will become famous soon enough
There are lots of colours. Light ones show the dirt. Bright ones make you look like a powerboater. Patterns or stripes - well they're just wrong....

Not sure about this brown business but you forgot burgundy and green.

But go on, be a devil and try something different.

true, I did forget burgandy and green. But just wondering if it is a specific brand that offers this or is it just generic?

Sunbrella have a wide range of colours. They even do some quite jaunty stripes but let's face it while they are in the main splendid chaps sailors are not known for their willingness to try something out of the ordinary. (Except SailingDog who seems to find the idea of training floats to be advantageous.) So given that as a group we tend to think that Navy Blue is a bright colour you'll probably end up with the same old same old.

Sunbrella

We just bought some Sunbrella Plus to make new dodger it has a urethane coating which is to make it more moisture resistant. Check out Sunbrella Marine Fabrics, Sailcloth, Canvas and Sail Hardware they have lots of options.
