Here are a couple of pics with the ball joint... The ability to articulate the arms is great when you are 1) Changing where you are sitting in the cockpit, or 2) Adjusting for the angle of the sun against the screen.

If you don't mind my asking: How much did that articulating setup set you back?

Is it really stable? That is: Once you lock it in place, does it tend to stay put, even with the boat heaving, maybe people brushing up against it, etc.? I like that you can get the GPS out of the companionway, but I'd worry that, with all that weight on the end of that arm, it would tend to sag or move about.
