brackets for swing-out nav equipment
I have seen boats with brackets that swing a nav board (Gps/radar displays) into the companionway. I looked in Home Depot for some type of bracket that could be tightened after it swings out, with no luck.
If anyone has any recommendations, I would appreciate it!

You may have a little more luck looking in an electronic's store, like best buys. I know they have something like that to mount a TV on.

Unfortunately, the best source for those arms I've seen is still Worst Marine.

SailingDog is correct. The best source is WM.

I just searched exhaustively and that's what I ended up with. I bought the basic swing mount for $70. It's aluminum and well made.

great input folks. Thanks! Unfortunately, I was near a West Marine a few days ago, and now that I am home, it will have to be mail order - nearest one is several hours away.

A company called Ram-Mount makes a lot of mountings for tons of different electronics. Many of them are made for a specific product, like a garmin440 for instance.
RAM Mounting Systems, Inc.

I looked at the RAM mounts and they seem nice. However, most pivot around a ball joint and that's not really what I wanted for my application.

I had to order the mount as well. I had to pay shipping AND sales tax. That's WM for you...

I've got the next size up of that same mount for my GPS. Very nice to be able to use it in both the cockpit and the cabin.

I would go back to RAM MOUNT again and re-look. I have a mount from them that has 4 or 5 way positioning and there is no ball and each position can be locked into place. They have pages and pages of stuff. I remember it took a while to figure out which pieces we needed to make up what we have, and have it work for us. Prices were resonable enough, and we worked with a good company out of GA.

There are hundreds of different kinds of RAM mounts. If you email them and tell them what you want, they will spec one out and forward your request to 3-4 RAM dealers you can order from (discount). Not all of them use the ball joints. My personal server is down right now but I'll post a pic of my old mount later... the RAM mounts are machined aluminum and very solid and I can't speak well enough of them.
