Battery Buying

The last time I bought a deep cycle battery (backup sump pump from Home Despot), I had to pour in the electrolyte after getting it home. Made me feel like I had a "new" battery. So should I be worried about buying Trojan deep cycle batteries from Gander Mountain if the electrolyte is already pre-loaded? Or was the "load the electrolyte yourself" experience unique? I'm replacing old Group 27 batteries for the first time - and would prefer to avoid buying one that was already reduced in capacity because it's been on the shelf for 6 months! And no, I couldn't find an obvious date on it. And if they're normally "pre-loaded" and just sitting on the shelf, how old is old?

The "load the electrolyte yourself" experience was unique. Trojan are a good batery. In fact I am looking for some myself, here in New Jersey.

Thanks - try Gander Mountain - looks like they have stores in eastern PA.

You're not limited to marine or outdoor sources for deep-cycle batteries. I bought Interstate 4Ds to replace the original batteries in my boat and am very pleased with them. Getting ready to get a couple of Interstate Group 27s to replace those on my reservoir fishing boat.
