Outboard rudder

I'm about to build an outboard rudder for my 27 foot project. I was looking all over the Net, but I could not found any really useful site regarding the construction and where to get proper parts. The stores have only pintles and gudgeons up to 24' boats, I need something stronger. Any advices?

This may not help much, but I saw this thing on ebay the other day, and thought it would be perfect for an outboard rudder project. It also comes with a set of heavy bronze gudgeon and pintles.

Tartan34C will become famous soon enough
I don’t know where you are located but in New England you can try Gannon and Benjamin in Vineyard Haven, Martha's Vineyard, MA and Mystic River Foundry in Mystic CN. We have used Port Townsend Foundry in Port Townsend WA and they have been great.

Most of our bronze is cast locally using patterns we make in the shop. Unfortunately the shop does it as a favor because of what we are and doesn’t want to do small stuff commercially
All the best,

You may have to look at salvage parts as a possible source, or custom machined parts. Of course, it really depends on how the rudder your designing is attached to the boat... a spade rudder doesn't use pintles or gudgeons... I've also seen home-built boats that use the stainless steel tubing for the rudder stock as part of the mounting system.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
