Tv/dvd/cd

I was in Target recently and saw a 12"LCD HDTV/DVD/CD set with built in speakers. What caught my eye was that the power cord had a transformer on it with a 12 vdc output and the set had a power input plug much like the one on my laptop. I'm thinking that this might be an ideal entertainment center for my boat (a Pearson 28) The set had an aux input so it may take an fm tuner and maybe a computer signal. Does anyone have experience with this type of TV onboard? I guess the electronics are not "sealed" like real marine products, but I know lots of people have CRT TVs onboard and they are probably not sealed either. It cost $250.

I put in a 15" flat screen that had a similar power source and it foes great off of just 12-volts straight. there are only a few marinized TVs and if it is in a cabin that is dry go for it.

If you really want to do something about it, and don't mind voiding the warranty, then you can open up the back of the case and spray it with a conformal circuit board compound.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough
No problem... just be aware that all in one products double your risks for a breakdown and when one goes...the whole thing goes. Suggest a straight LCD set and a portable DVD to feed it.
Be careful about the set you buy...ALL sets made after March 1 MUST have HDTV tuner built in. Many stores are still clearing out sets that are HDTV ready or capable and you will NEED to buy a separate tuner to get anything in 2009 with one of these.
