Dynastarters & Voltage Regulation
Hello to everyone:
I am new to this site and find your collective wisdom to be very helpful.
I have a 1976 International Folkboat with a Volvo MD1B diesel. I have had 10+ years of battery problems (essentially annual replacement). This year the problem has been especially acute. I have replaced cables, refurbrished regulator, new deep cycle 90 ah batteries (2 bank). After sailing and playing stereo for about 2 hours (13 amp max, switched to 1 battery), the engine would not start the next morning without a jump. Charging the system with moderate throttle, I fried the Dynastarter! I have found a site in the UK that offers new Dynastarters and Regulators for the original Bosch designs and have both units on order! (lucky, eh?)
My concern is that replacing both units will still not solve the problem. My suspicion is grounded (no pun intended) in a posting by a bright, electronics hobbyist.
Dynamo Current and Voltage Regulator
Can anyone help me demystify the problems I am encountering? Is there an easier fix than building a regulator from scratch?
Thanks for your help.
Carl
