Lightbulb trolling motor generator

well I had an idea the other day as I was sailing my boat with a set of dead house batteries that I might be able to use a trolling motor as a generator I just have a little macgragor 22 so eating up space with solar pannels is not an option. I am an industrial maintenance tech so I can handle the technical end of things ok I just wanted to know if anyone has tried it or heard of it being done and the results befor I spend the whopping 50 bucks on the project.
