Garmin 276C - difference between auto or marine?
On the Garmin 276C, is there such a thing as a different automotive or marine version?
What is the difference?
Also - how hard is it to replace the battery on these?
Switching between Marine and Automotive
On mine, if you press the Page key for more than 2 seconds a dialog box opens which allows you to select between Marine and Automotive. The most obvious difference between the two is the speed display. Automotive shows speed in MPH while Marine shows it in Knots.
AFAIK, the units are exactly the same... the way you set the unit for operation is the mode/page key. The major differences between the marine mode and automotive mode are:
1) Speed displays in knots, not MPH or KPH
2) Basemap of coastal data shows up and road data disappears
3) Tide stations show up
4) Color scheme changes slighty IIRC
5) Automotive terrestrial mode will tend to try and keep the vehicle on roads, the hiking/walking/biking terrestrial mode ignores the on-road restriction for auto-guidance/navigation purposes, as does the marine mode.
The battery is fairly simple to remove, and is a rechargable LiIon cell IIRC.
