KPBaker is on a distinguished road
I have two Deep Cycle Gel Cell Batteries on board my 26 sailboat. I normally use my boat for about 8 months during the year, with most of the usage on weekends. My boat has an inboard diesel that recharges the batteries when in use, and I have a flexible solar panel that "trickle" charges the batteries when the boat is left at the slip.I know there are a lot of variables concerning the life of a battery, and the proper systems for charging them, but is there a general rule of thumb as to how often they should be replaced? Each year, the batteries have never failed to start my inboard diesel, but since I don''t have any type of charge indicator system, I''m wondering what kind of shape the batteries are actually in? I would really appreciate some input from anyone that has some insight into this dilemma. Thanks!
