You could sew a shelve in that pretty dodger you have and store it there.

That dodger is ugly, are you nuts??? it spoils my boat, and putting it there could be hazardous. Besides, that's Freds "cool" spot.

Door? What door?

Oh, that. I thought that was an hors d'oeuvre tray left over by the caterers from Chuck E Cheese.

Moonbeam,
Your beautiful dodger snaps to the cabintop forward. what's the chances of doubling up those snaps with a couple of nylon straps. They'd extend aft to the teak where you could secure them. Then the door could lay flush on the cabintop, with straps holding it down, with or without the dodger in place. Just a thought. I'd probably mount it on the overhead the way you did before.

Dad...here is the problem, the dodger is not on snaps, its on a plastic U shaped track, so water does not get in. and that area is widely used by the kids. And when we sail hard, its a hazzard.

I really really need to store it inside, I agree, the ceiling of one of the cabins is the way to go, but my wife says she rather not see it there.

At one time, I had the idea of cutting a slot under one of the aft beds, on the small bulkhead and insert the door there like a drawer, on tracks. But then, I could not access the compartment there from the top, and that's where the life vests are stored.

Instead of mounting just tracks on the overhead, make a full pocket with a short door on the aft end. It will look the same whether companionway hatch is stowed or not. Pick your material for construction the same as the overhead material. From the size of it, it appears you could make two shelves in such a storage box; one for the hatch cover, and one for charts.

Sway...

This is what I was thinking some time ago...is it the same you suggested?

What do you guys think?? The only problem is the access to that under bunj compartment will be somewhat limited, and if things get underneath the "drawer", will probably be hard to recover.

Any more ideas? Please? Thanks

Not sure how much space you have on that port aft bulkhead - behind the nav station I think. But if you turned it on it's side could you make a bracket on that bulkhead that could hold the door ? or is it called a drop board ? and then it would just slide into the bracket with a little latch to secure it when on port tack ?

if it would be too tight you wouldn't be able to fit - although you could just make Fred do all the plotting

just my $.0125 cents worth
