Here is the first:

I like that one because you can pull the pin easily.

Here is the second. This is very similar. Ours may be a bit deeper in the barrel, but it is hard to tell from pics.

Alex,
Cut it in-two laterally at a 45-degree angle to prevent ingress of water, and then hinge it. Fit some thin gasket material between the two halves. It will be half as big, and you can keep it in your wallet. First remove the condoms, so that you'll have room.

Alex,

It appears that you have a staboard bulkhead, at the bottom of the companionway, on the other side of the door to ... (the head?). I could also see, behind the baby stuff, that there is a knee wall with a hand hold in it (there is a pillow leaning against it in your picture). It is hard to see in the picture exactly what is going on there (I would put a Nav station there if I could), but it looks as though there may be room against that bulkhead to keep the door stowed (vertically) when it is not in use. I would then be worried about scratching that beautiful cherry with the lock...

If you can provide a picture from the bottom of the companionway steps, looking starboard, it might help.

Ed

Scratching is exactly my problem, and worse, I'd hate to see the glass door hanging in the walls.

Ed, the place where you would put a nav station if you could...is where I put my nav station!! see bellow.

As you come down the companion way, that is what I have on port side.

side view of nav station

view looking forward from nav station

On starbord side, I have the salon head at 90deg to the companion way, and the two aft cabins behind the comapnion way stairs

Here is a crude layout of my boat..sorry the quality sucks.

CD, USCG..thanks for the hinges...that seems like a good idea, I'll as Giulietta if she likes it. If she does, its a possibility. As long as I remove it when not cruising. The holes in the glass ouch....ouch....

That is not a knee high wall its more of a belly high wall. It is the aft end of the salon setee, and it curves to shape the setee, so nothing can be stowed there.

Hey..I had an idea...what if I make a drawer type thing, and the comp door stores under the salon table?? There is spave and its accessible easy enough, and out of sight!

What do you think? I can have a drawer made..

Spatial problem solving is one of my specialties. Like what to do with all the extra space in my head. If I was there, I know I could find a spot for your door!

'nother suggestion

Put tinfoil on it and haul it up with a spare halyard to improve your radar profile.

Make a padded backrest for the nav station bench, and have a pocket in the backrest to drop the companionway drop board into. That way it is out of the way, the nav station is more comfortable, and the board won't scratched, and neither will the wood.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
