You're correct Capn. But, I suppose it's human nature to use "household terms" for describing certain products . . . not unlike using Scotch Tape instead of adhesive backed cellophane tape. < G >

I searched high and low on the Sailnet Store only because i'm partial to it, but came up empty handed. you can always stop by that other store on your way to the lake and pick on up for 25-50 bucks and up depending on type size you prefer.

Davis makes a pretty good non-electronic one that is commonly available. Was the one that broke a plain one or one that hooked up to instruments??

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Up here the bald eagles (our national bird, otherwise known as mast-top vandals) tend to break these (and other expensive) fittings...seems they don't like gagets moving about on thier perches....

Hi TB, I'm sorry that maybe you thought I was trying to correct you or to be more correct than you. I was posting at the same time you were and didn't see your reponse. I was just answering the question; that it's called a windvane and adding that Windex is a popular brand since the poster indicated he was looking to buy one.

But, now you got me thinking. What do they call Scotch Tape in Scotland?
