"portable" diesel generator for $1899

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...cStoreNum=8125

What is the opinion on this? I have a small sailboat that I might want some backup power once in a while--no room and too expensive to install a traditional marine diesel generator--don't want a gas generator, too dangerous--this one weighs only 116 pounds, uses a Yanmar engine and 3500 watts.

camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough
The big problem is noise...at 76 decibels it is just way too loud for a boat. By comparison, the Honda 2000 is 59 decibels. A 10 decibel difference is heard as TWICE as loud so the diesel is heard as nearly 4 times as loud as the Honda gas which many people themselves find too loud!!
I would suggest you reconsider gas. Most of us carry it on board for our dinghy's anyway.

On a small boat, the weight of the diesel generator could be an issue.

Gasoline is only dangerous if mishandled.
