!@$%!%!! Shore Power!
After talking with the club's Commodore, I go to hook up to shore power Sunday. Cable's three measly feet too short. Grrr. Exploring my options, find a local eBay seller that's selling a used 100' "30A" shore power cable. Meet him. Buy it. Only this morning, showing it to somebody else, do I notice it's not quite as thick as my 50' cable. Read the jacket. It's 12/3 cable! Yeah, that's right: Somebody put 30A Hubble connectors on "20A" cable.
So now I'm thinkin': Screw this for a game of soldiers. I'm just going to find myself 10' of yellow jacketed marine 10/3 and splice it in. Believe me: I can do a splice like that that'll be electrically as good as the plugs (at least), strong enough I'd trust it for rappeling off a bridge  , and "water resistant" enough to leave laying on the ground indefinitely.
Now what am I gonna do with 100' of exceedingly heavy-duty yellow extension cord, I wonder?

Well if the ebay seller "sold" you a 30A cord that was a 20A cord, give him bad feedback. That's number 1.

Put it back on eBay, but be sure to state it's capacity...or, do they have a community Bulletin Board there where you can advertise it? I'm sure it would be useful to someone with smaller elect requirements.

Definitely ding the seller...and if you bought it using PayPal or a credit card, ask for your money back. The goods you were sold were not what was advertised... that's fraud.

I bought it "outside" eBay. I know: Bad idea. *shrug* It's my fault for not examining the cable more closely before handing over the cash. I'm guessing the seller didn't even know. I've emailed him. We'll see what transpires.

I couldn't do that. It's 20A cable with 30A fittings. It is, effectively, worthless, as-is.
Make a damn good 20A extension cord, tho. Now if I only had a use for a 100' long, super-heavy-duty, 20A extension cord, I'd be all set.

I don't think an ATC, or an 8 would fit that diameter through it. You may end up having to tie a munter hitch to do the rap. Saying as you should be rapping with both lines, and given the diameter of the cable, your probably best using two separate biners for this.

I see. Well, in that you have the proper ends, you might just buy the 30A cable and build the exact length you need instead of hacking up your short one. Might be able to sell your too short one to offset the cost of the 30A cable.

The ends on neither of these cables are in all that good a shape. I wouldn't build a new cable out of them. Besides: Have you priced cable with copper in it lately  .
I got an email back from the seller. Bottom line: "I sold it to you as is and there is no return, sorry." Which was somehow just what I expected.

Jim, Can't you find a short shore cord and plug it into yours and extend it to where you need it to be ?
