Storage: Removing foam floation

Other than the obivious, is there any structual reason to keep foam in a boat?
I looking for storage as I refit.

Yes, in many cases the foam was to provide positive flotation in case of a holing. It also depends on what kind of boat it is... smaller ones, less than 20' IIRC, are required to have positive flotation.

Thanks. I never had a boat with foam. Especially on a manmade lake, I see where stumps could be a end of day mess.
Thanks for the advice. I will have to see where else storage is doable.
