grampian 23 traveler

recently bought a 1975 grampian 23 and it appears that the traveler was removed in past years. there is a track immediately outside the doors at the deck level that presently has the main sheet attached to it. at one point in the past it had cars attached to this track as one is still there though it is frozen in place and no one i have shown this to recognizes how it would have worked. i'm sure the rigging has been altered over the years just by the presence of old holes that must have had some type of hardware mounted to them. any advice, drawings or photos would be greatly appreciated. i guess one alternative is that this boat never had a traveler.

If it had a traveler.. and the mainsheet is on a traveler car, then there were probably blocks on either end with a line to the mainsheet car to move the mainsheet to windward. It would help if you took a photo. A fully outfitted traveler looks something like this:

A photo of what you've got would help. The photo isn't mine, so I can't say much for the poor exposure and composition. This is of a mid-boom sheeting solution.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

You may want to head to WM or equal sailboat supply place, or look online at a Harken book of parts etc, along with online, there are a number of how to build a traveler for different sized boats.

I recently got rid of my original Goiot track etc, and installed a Harken upwind traveler setup, makes for adjustments etc real nice and easy. I am thinking that my setup is similar to yours, in that it is onthe cockpit seats, just behind the cabin. Hopefully I will remember to take a pic so I can post the end result here one of these days.

Maybe not, but from looking at the Grampian site, there doesn't seem to any reason why you couldn't put one on if you wanted to.

Something like the set-up in SD's photo would be the way to go.

From the three boats pictured, it looks like the one with a dodger, uses a rope for atrack, the other two, look like something is done in the cockpit for a traveler mount of some sort. So I would agree that something could be done. I would look at Harken's site as I recomended before, or another deck gear manufacture that is availible, like Schaffer or Ronstan.
