Imron Dupont question....

My old ship hull was painted by a two-part polyurethane paint known as "Imron" and it's a blue colour, with the code 63203, made by Dupont.

I have a wee tin of the colour part of this paint and it's still liquid, but the activator, a very sweet-smelling liquid in a tall sealed tin froze up, and is solid and ruined.

The local garage mechanic suspected that these two-part paints have been banned, and they won't sell the colourant anymore.

I wonder if this is true?

Also, does anyone know what the activator was? It says on the tin that it contains isocyanates, and the activator has the product name "250S".

I am only using it for touch up, so I need so little, but I will be hacked off if it is banned today.

Thanks.

robfinora is on a distinguished road
I painted my mast last year with Imron. I think the activator is still available. You should go to a auto-paint supply shop and show them what you have....they may even just give you a few drops or an ounce for free.

Rockter, Imron is still on the market but IIRC 2-part paints (excuse me, "coatings") are often rather toxic when sprayed (which is the typical professional use) and unless you wear a bunny suit with a fresh air supply, highly disfavored these days because of the dangers of mishandling them. (I know, you're just dabbing a bit on, but that's not what the main use/problem is.)

DuPont should be able to tell you if what you have will still cure properly, whether the activator can kill you (quickly or slowly), and whether they make the same color in a more stable 1-part coating these days.

The colour match was so good with what I have, and indeed, the activator is a cyanide derivative, but it is open air, and I will be in touch-up mode.
