relocating/replacing diesel tank/s to front
My Oday 30 has the fuel tank behind the engine which is under the cockpit. I'm wondering if there is any reason to not (if there is room and I think there is) go under the Vee berth. Other then it being about 12 ft to the engine. The sloshing of the fuel could be a problem But I don't think so...

Rather then deal with cleaning the old tank. I'd go for 2 smaller tanks or a long skinny one. That should take about 125-200 lbs off the aft end of the boat and give me lots more storage back there. The fuel fill could be routed to the front but I would most likely install a new fill up there. The old fuel fill would be changed to a water fill for my port water bag under the main salon bunk.

I think too much!

I'm not an engineer, by any means, but intuitively, I would think it would add too much weight up front. I can see your thinking, but things like tanks are placed with the weight distribution in mind.

Adding a lot weight to the bow will cause the boat to 'hobbyhorse' and plunge in to the backs of waves ..... adding any weight to the ends of a boat (rather than adding it near the center of rotation or near the center of mass) will cause a boat to be 'cranky', etc.

That said, I have a sailboat with LARGE bow fuel tank ... I just never fill it all the way. Such tanks have internal baffles to prevent the 'sloshing'.

Hmmmm ok... there's only a 15 gal holding tank there now. I think the boat is light in the front. when motoring.. under sail it feels ok. thanks! (didn't really want to do that project anyway) lol

I would leave it as is.

Adding weight so far forward tends to make the ship nod a fair bit.

If you moved it, where would you move the holding tank to? Moving a holding tank is generally a bad idea... especially if the new location requires longer hoses.

theres room with the holding tank there. But I agree with you all. I'll leave things as is. thanks!
