One check that Greybeard has missed... and hopefully one that doesn't leak... but fill the holding tank with water, by filling the head and emptying it. Freshwater is better, but seawater will also do. Once the holding tank is almost full, stop and see if you have any leaks... If you do... fix it fast... last thing you want leaking on your boat is the head plumbing.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Yes, please forgive him; as you can see from his avatar he is only about 10 years old, but he owns a boat and lives a lifestyle that has most of us incredibly envious..

I think its just the water below your bilge draw....the worst advice I ever heard on that was to drill a hull in the very bottom of the bilge so the small amount of remaining water could drain out. Don't try that

Dmoreau-

Please don't hijack a thread for something completely off topic. It'd be much better if you started a new thread regarding that. Also, there have been quite a few threads on insurance.

BTW, many marinas won't accept a boat that doesn't have at least liability insurance. Also, if you don't have liability insurance, and you hit a mega-yatch by accident, you're responsible for the repairs to the megayatch. Have you considered environmental remediation costs? If your boat sinks and you cause an oil slick from the diesel fuel, you'll be responsible for those clean up costs in many cases.

Saltypat, whatever you do, don't taste the water in the bilge to see if its fresh or sea water. My friend did just that when he discover water in the engine bed. He ends up with tummy aches and diarrhreoa.

You're supposed to taste it—not drink it...
