New Head

I am needing to rebuild or replace an old Raritan Compact model head. The manufacture said no or very few rebuild parts are available and suggested the PHII. Any suggestions on another model or manufacture ,quality for the price etc?

Although far from the best, I have seen Jabsco's on sale for $119 and the rebuid kits for around $60. Mine is going on 4 yrs. now. as far as maint. all I have done is remove the top cover to the plunger and lube the O-ring.

It might be worth putting in a Lavac head, which is one of the most reliable, and simplest to use heads available. However, you will need to do a bit of modification to the existing plumbing if you go this route. If you want to get a more standard head, the HeadMate 90 is a pretty good unit.

Used 2 phII's while living on board for several years. Rebuild kits are widely available and they are a good, reasonably priced head.

I tried that route and my model has been discontinued and they said few if any rebuild parts were available. They are who suggested the PHII. I'll only be weekending for a while so it might not be an issue.

if you're in So Cal, try Minneys Marine Surplus in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach. Tons of good used heads, plus 4 milk crates full of old, arcane parts.........

I have used the Jabscos on our previous boats. They are ok, but it seems that I recall the rebuild kits are expensive and a new head is not much more(not positive, so check it out).

I currenty use a Wilcox Crittenden. It has been reliable. The parts are easily obtaibable, including a nice schematic for them online. I found their online ordering very easy and friendly.
