Volvo 11 MDA Engine Opinions

Hi,

We are looking at a Roberts 38, it has a Volvo 11MDA 25HP engine with 1700 hours, built in 1982.

Apparently this engine has been very well maintained. I am not familiar with diesels & my questions are;

Is 1700 hours a-lot for this motor?

How long can a motor like this last?

Any feedback on this motor is appreciated.

I have the same engine. Parts are hard to come by and cost a small fortune when you find them.

Thanks, what about reliability, what has been your experience with this engine, anything that I should know about, opinions?

It can have some overheating problem if you don't clean out the raw water intake. But it is a fairly strong, reliable engine. Always watch the temperature gauge and the minute you see it climb, shut the engine down. 1700 hours is very low for a engine of that age. Good luck with the boat.
